A Court Of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas | Book Review by TheCozy.Cat

Synopsis:

Nesta Archeron has always been prickly – proud, swift to anger and slow to forgive. And since the war – since being made High Fae against her will – she’s struggled to forget the horrors she endured and find a place for herself within the strange and deadly Night Court.

The person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred, winged warrior who is there at Nesta’s every turn. But her temper isn’t the only thing Cassian ignites. And when they are forced to train in battle together, sparks become flame.

As the threat of war casts its shadow over them once again, Nesta and Cassian must fight monsters from within and without if they are to stand a chance of halting the enemies of their court. But the ultimate risk will be searching for acceptance – and healing – in each other’s arms.

My Review

Oh.My.GODDDD I don’t know how I am going to recover from this series! I think this book was my favorite out of the entire ACOTAR series.

Nesta’s character was I think the most powerfully transformative in this series. Don’t get me wrong, so was Feyre’s, but I guess I feel like Nesta’s was more powerful because of her character. Nesta is very hard, very cold, very guarded. I feel like I relate with Nesta in a lot of ways, just from what I’ve been through in my own experiences. Life experiences change you, not always for the better.

Nesta has been through a lot in her life, from being rich to losing everything and being dirt poor. She was taken and thrown into the Cauldron against her will and made into one of the Fae. She was thrust into a life she never wanted, and was hurt so much she pushed everyone away.

In this book, we see Nesta at her lowest of lows. We see her start at rock bottom, where she turns to sex and alcohol to numb the trauma she’s been through and the guilt she feels towards her father and not being able to save him. She’s a character that really blames herself for a lot, is really hard on herself, and I feel like that’s something a lot of people can relate to. It’s not an easy thing to hit rock bottom, and sometimes it’s even harder to pull yourself out from rock bottom.

Through the course of this book, we watch Nesta gradually heal, one step at a time, and transform into the strong badass that she is. She slowly starts letting people in, and through training with Cassian and creating her own connections, she starts to heal.

There were also many moments where I was just in complete aw at her badassery. 🤣 (Spoiler alert) she kills a freaking god, forges legendary weapons, and had a moment where she commanded death itself. Goosebumps!! There are a lot of really epic scenes in this book at as a reader I just felt so proud of Nesta, her strength and her willpower to push forward. It’s inspiring!

Cassian was also such an amazing support to her through all this. He saw her at her lowest of lows, and how easy it could have been for him to abandon her and turn his back, but he didn’t. He never stopped having faith in her, no matter how frustrating she was sometimes, he stuck by her side. And can I just say… if there is ever a movie series made from the ACOTAR series, we NEEEEEEED Jason Mamoa to play Casian. 🤣🤣 There is NO other actor who fits the role better. He IS Jason Mamoa. 🥵

And for those who love spice, I think this very well may be THE spiciest book in the series. My goodness. The first book does not even compare!

All in all, A Court of Silver Flames is definitely tied with A Court of Mist and Fury for me. Sarah J. Maas really has a talent for writing powerful fantasy stories. After reading the entire ACOTAR series I’m definitely a huge fan of her work. A Court of Silver Flames has such an amazing plot, amazing character development, and is definitely a book I will be re-reading again at some point. HIGHLY recommend.
